Fire Rated Roller Doors | UL & EN Projects | Yesoon Door

A fire rated roller door is a complete tested assembly, not just a steel curtain: slats, guides, barrel, bottom bar, seals and release hardware all carry the rating together. Buyers call it a rolling steel fire door in the US and Canada, and a fire rated roller shutter (aluminium or steel) in the UK, Australia and much of Africa. The opening size, target rating, project standard and destination port determine which assembly can be quoted.

Yesoon Door quotes factory-direct fire rated roller doors for commercial and industrial projects. Send the clear opening width and height, required rating (60, 90, 120 or 180 minutes), project standard (UL 10B/10C, CAN/ULC-S104, BS 476, EN 1634-1 or local code), wall type, operation method and destination port. We confirm the tested assembly, documentation and FOB or CIF price.

What the fire rating covers

The rating belongs to the complete tested assembly: slat curtain, guides, barrel, bottom bar, seals, operator and release device. Changing the width beyond the tested range, using another operator, or replacing key hardware can invalidate the rating. We review substitutions before production.

Our current stainless steel model is a 3-hour fire rated rolling shutter with 304 stainless steel slats, manual chain-hoist operation and optional motorization. It includes a fire-release connection and is referenced to UL 10B, BS 476 and GB 14102. Custom sizes, other ratings and alternative materials are quoted after engineering review.

Where fire rated roller doors are used

  • Warehouse and factory fire compartments
  • Stairwells, corridors and elevator lobbies
  • Loading bays between storage and production areas
  • Plant rooms, kitchens and service corridors
  • Wide commercial openings where a swinging fire door would obstruct traffic

Quote-ready specification checklist

Before comparing prices, put the opening and rating on paper. A complete specification avoids a quote that looks low but cannot be installed or accepted.

  • Clear opening width, height and required fire rating
  • Project standard or consultant reference, including local code where applicable
  • Wall type, headroom, side room, mounting position and any shaft or curb dimensions
  • Manual chain-hoist or motorized operation, fire-alarm release and normal opening cycles
  • Packaging requirement, delivery date, destination port and trade terms

Ask each supplier for the assembly drawing, rating report or test summary, material and hardware list, packaging drawing, installation requirements and warranty terms. For certified doors, confirm that the report covers the actual slat profile, guides, barrel, bottom bar, seals and controls. A supplier that cannot match these documents to the ordered assembly should not be judged on the price alone.

Acceptance checks before handover

At the project site, check the model number, dimensions, operation and documentation before sign-off. Record any damage or mismatch on the delivery documents and ask the supplier to confirm the next step in writing.

  • Assembly model, size and rating match the order and specification
  • Curtain, guides, barrel, bottom bar, seals and operator are the specified parts
  • Manual and motorized operation run without binding, and the release device works
  • Installation gaps, fixings and seals match the instructions and local approval requirements
  • Test report, installation instructions, packing list and warranty documents are available

Common mistakes that weaken the value of a rated door include changing hardware after purchase, using an untested operator, fitting oversized curtain panels, or accepting delivery without checking the model and documents. For warehouse bays and industrial openings, review the opening dimensions, rating and installation requirements before sending drawings to a supplier.

FAQ

Is a fire rated roller door the same as a rolling steel fire door?

Yes. The terminology varies by market. The valid rating depends on the complete tested assembly and matching documentation.

Can a normal security shutter be converted into a fire rated shutter?

Normally no. A tested fire shutter has rated slats, guides, seals and controls. Converting an unrelated shutter does not usually create a valid rating.

Can you quote CIF shipping?

Yes. Send the destination port, door sizes and quantity. We confirm freight options after the specification and packing details are reviewed.

Does Yesoon Door quote rolling steel fire doors?

Yes. This is the common term in the United States and Canada for a rated rolling shutter. Send the clear opening, required rating and project standard; we confirm whether the tested assembly, controls and documentation fit the project.
